Ultra Music Festival
Currently the world’s big, brash carnival of electronic dance music, Ultra Music Festival takes place in Bayfront Park, on the shores of Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami. Originally devised as a closing party for the Winter Music Conference, Ultra has grown up through American dance culture pre-commercialisation, when four vinyl-deck mixing was happening on low key stages to small crowds.
The event outgrew its side kick persona quickly, and now attracts upwards of 300,000 attendees over one weekend each year, while Ultra Worldwide has stretched out to places like Brazil, Ibiza, Bali, Chile, Brazil, Japan and Korea. Staying true to its EDM (Electronic Dance Music) roots, the majority of acts at the Miami station are by techno producers and DJs, with previous headliners including Justice, Deadmau5, Dizzee Rascal, Diplo, Carl Cox, AfroJack and David Guetta.
Come here to party day and night, dress weird, and take in the sun in the warm weather playground that is Miami.
WORDS OF WISDOM
- This is the upper echelon of electronic music festivals, and when released, the majority of tickets sell out in a matter of minutes. If going with a group, search for tickets online on multiple screens to avoid missing out.
- Only bring in what one can dance with. Ultra regulars all seem to agree that fanny packs are the way to go.
- See at least one big act inside the Ultra ‘Mega Structure’. It’s an impressive piece of pop up architecture, with state-of-the-art visual effects, sound and lighting.
- For those who thrive in the energy of a huge crowd, and love to dress up, Ultra is the one.
