Feast Portland is the beloved food and drink festival of the Pacific Northwest. As a celebration of Oregon’s culinary bounty, the event pulls together the best of farm-to-table restaurants, craft breweries, coffee roasters, gourmet sandwich makers and grill masters that the region has to boast of. Celebrity chefs, both local and from other states are drawn in too.
Expect supreme energy and enthusiasm for all kinds of food and drink. This is a gathering of 12,000 plus people that has the capacity to set food trends rather than simply bring them to life. Chefs in attendance find new ideas, innovative products are showcased, unusual flavours are debuted.
Feast Portland is famed for its mix of themed ticketed events, night markets and hands-on instructional classes. Show up for The Grand Tasting in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square to sample a mash up of edibles, or stoke up appetites for everything flamed and grilled at Smoked! Interested in wine? Attend one of the many wine, spirit and beer tastings, all of which have an educational slant. A weekend of supreme eats at Feast is best finished off on the Sunday at Brunch Village, to chow down on Bloody Mary bars, Texas breakfast tacos and fried chicken with waffles.
This also happens to be a festival with soul. The wider mission of Feast is to help end hunger in the Oregon area and across the USA. A portion of each ticket sold supports Hunger Free Oregon and their not-for-profit work with school children, their families and the homeless.
WORDS OF WISDOM
- Get out into the country. If a weekend of eating has left one feeling a little weighed down, stretch the legs on the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway. The 212 kilometre route takes riders past hop fields, farms, vineyards and small towns in one of Oregon’s best known wine regions.
- Make short detours for lunch at a farmhouse restaurant or pick up snacks from farm stalls.
- Seek out reprieve from the crowds. Visit charming Sweedeedee for coffee and a slice of pie or stop by Canteen. This vegetarian day time joint is loved by its locals, well-priced and 100 per cent delicious.
- Stay at the Ace Portland, located downtown in the old Clyde Hotel building or Jupiter, a boutique hotel occupying a converted mid-century motor lodge.
- Don’t just visit this area solely for Feast Portland. Spend time in wider Oregon and experience the wealth of natural wonders the state has to offer. Check Travel Oregon for a simple, engaging run down.
