Getting there: Fly into the main entry point Faleolo International Airport (APW), 35 kilometres from Apia on the island of Upolu. Direct flights are available from New Zealand, Australia, Hawai’i, Fiji and American Samoa.
Capital city: Apia.
Language: Samoan and English.
Currency: Samoan tālā (WST).
Climate: Warm and tropical year-round with a wet season from November to April and a dry season from May to October. The temperatures stay constant through both seasons.
Transport: Hire a car to explore the islands, catch a taxi or take a bus. Scheduled ferries transport vehicles and people between the two main islands.
Best time to travel: This would be during the dry season but apart from the inconvenience of rain bursts and as the temperatures are pretty much the same in both seasons, Samoa is a year-round destination.
What to wear: Lightweight summer clothing and smart casual for the resorts and dining out. Skimpy clothing and swimsuits are not encouraged outside resorts or in the villages. If attending church, women should wear a lavalava (sarong) and men, a shirt and trousers.
