Getting there: Fly into the main gateway Kinshasha’s N’djili International Airport (FIH) or enter overland by bus from Uganda.There are passenger ferries from Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo to Kinshasha. Travellers from countries with a DRC embassy must get a visa before arrival.

Climate: The country straddles the Equator and the climate tends to be hot and humid year round, particularly in the river basin. The climate in the mountains range from temperate to cold alpine. The rainy season north of the equator lasts from April to November and south of it, from October to May. Along the equator, rain falls through the year.
Transport: Ground transport is difficult and public transport is barely available. One way to get across the country quickly though not necessarily safely is by plane. It is best to use tour operators to get around more comfortably.
Best time to travel: The best time to visit is during the cooler, dry period from June to August.
What to wear: Hats and headwraps are recommended as they help shield against the scorching heat. Pack light, long sleeved tops and pants to protect against insect bites, closed shoes and good rain gear.
