Getting there: Fly into Phillip Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Ladyville, just a short distance from its port, Belize City. Belize can also be reached by boat from its neighboring countries.
Capital city: Belmopan.
Religion: Roman Catholic.
Currency: Belize dollar (BZD).
Climate: Belize is subtropical. Humidity is high, but this is often masked by cooling sea breezes.
Transport: Travel around by either plane, bus, car, boat and even horse. Most travel the country using public buses as their primary form of transportation as there is a well-planned highway and road system that connects all town centres and points of interest. There are several small airports based near attractions. Use water taxis between the islands and to barrier reef excursions.
Best time to travel: Visit during the country’s dry season from late November to mid-April. This is peak tourist season with everyone arriving for the warm temperatures, clear skies and an escape from the northern hemisphere’s winter.
What to wear: The hot, humid temperatures means comfortable, cool clothing, ideally in natural fabrics, are best.
