Bahamas

  • Getting there: Fly into three major international airports: Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) on New Providence, Grand Bahama International Airport (FPO) on Grand Bahama Island, and Marsh Harbour International Airport (MHH) on Abaco Island. These airports are served by flights from Europe and North America. Taking a cruise to The Bahamas is also a great scenic option.
  • Capital city: Nassau.
  • Population: 386,841.
  • Religion: Predominantly Christian
  • Language: English.
  • Currency: Bahamian dollar (BND).
  • Climate: Tropical maritime — offering year-round warm weather.
  • Transport: Jitneys (public buses) are easily available so are taxis and even water-taxis. For those not wanting to stick to schedules, rent a bicycle, scooter or car. Take a leisurely trot through town streets in a horse-drawn surrey. Hop onto ferries to travel between some of the islands but with the plentiful marinas and boat harbours, a water craft might be the better option, especially to reach the smaller islands.
  • Best time to travel: The continual trade winds give this destination warm weather all year round. Winter lows are at 21 degrees Celsius and summer highs range from 26–32 degrees Celsius.
  • What to wear: Smart casual clothes in natural fabrics are best for the heat.
