ClimateWith the exception of the southern regions, the climate of Kazakhstan is strongly continental with wide temperature differentials. In summer the country is balmy, while winter temperatures can (on occasion) plummet down to 50 degrees Celsius below zero.
TransportWithin most cities buses, minibuses, trams and trolleybuses services are available. The train system is extensive and relatively cheap hence very popular. With intercity trips, taxis or rental cars are a more flexible and faster alternative to buses and minibuses. There are multiple regional airports to use as well.
Best time to travelJuly to September are the best months for trekking in the mountains and experiencing the beautiful colors of autumn but is also peak season. December to March are the best months for skiing activities.
What to wearKazakhstanis dress formally. Anything neat, clean, and conservative should be acceptable. Clothing should also be durable and versatile. Kazakhstan summers are very hot and their winters so freezingly wet, windy and snowy that the locals normally wear heavy fur coats and hats.
