Barbados

  • Getting there: Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), on the island's southeast corner about 16 kilometres from Bridgetown, is the largest airport in the Eastern Caribbean and the major point of entry for the region. Barbados is served by major airlines flying from North America and the UK.
  • Capital city: Bridgetown.
  • Population: 285,067.
  • Religion: Roman Catholic.
  • Language: English.
  • Currency: Barbadian Dollar (BBD).
  • Climate: Barbados is generally warm and sunny with precipitation all year round, usually arriving in quick showers. The drier season lasts from January to June.
  • Transport: Barbados has reliable and safe transportation with buses, mini buses and vans.
  • Best time to travel: July to November. Prices drop dramatically compared to the high season (December to April), and hurricanes are less likely compared to the low season (April to June).
  • What to wear: Beachwear, as most time will be spent on the beach and smart casual in lightweight, natural fabrics for the rest of the time. Do not wear camouflage clothing or carry anything in camouflage material as this is illegal in Barbados.
